Zaid Jantuah here again to drop a fire scholarly article for my pedagogical friends researching poaching. I am happy to provide a resource for their AP projects.
Poaching is bad. Evil guys who poach and get animal. Boo.
Many of my readers have noted that I (zad) may not know much about Pedagogical, given by how little of my posts are really related to pedagogly.
Don’t worry my Zadlers, as I (zaid jantuah) have prepared a scholarly essay for my readers to enjoy.
Imagine a dark damp city street, a strong scent of smoke and trash stings your nose, eyes constantly shifting for criminals and mafia that run around the alleys like rats. This sounds like the setting of a dystopian drama film but in fact it was the reality for hundreds of men women and children living in the united states under prohibition. But how did we get here? The progressive movement known as Prohibition was marching its way to congress with the belief that heavy drinking was the cause for: a lack of funding to military during world war one, corruption, child abuse, crime, unemployment, and worker safety. Prohibition soon reached the house of representatives where on December 17th 1917 the 18th amendment was won 47 to 8 making the country officially unable to produce, sell, or distribute alcohol. But if prohibition was against all these horrible issues going on in the United States then why did America change its mind about Prohibition? The reason for America’s changed view on prohibition was because a more sober America resulted in a more dangerous America with criminals, gangsters, and bootleggers running rampant in the streets making homicide rates boom, and corruption within the very government that passed the 18th amendment by the people who once supported the movement of a alcohol free america. To begin, let us discuss my first point. Prohibition was a leading cause of crime, unintentionally opening a new opportunity for criminals and gangsters willing to capitalize on the new market of illegal drinkers and if there is one thing that these transgressors are good at it’s killing to keep control or to gain it. This spike in the homicide rate is shown through a chart compiled by the US census and the FBI uniform crime reports 6th edition displaying how from the years 1919 to 1933 when Prohibition was established homicide rates went from 7-8 per 100,000 people to 10-11 per 100,000 people. This example proves how America’s mind changing on prohibition was because of the fact that an already post world war one America was beginning to turn on each other to be the king of the hill and the top of the illegal alcohol market making the homicide the highest it has ever been up until that point. The American people had the right to be concerned when their own brothers and sisters could be murdered or will murder because of crime caused by prohibition leading to a disdain for the 18th amendment from the citizens that once supported it. Now my second point as to why America changed its mind on prohibition is the corruption from within the government that established prohibition as law and the fact that even government officials succumb to alcohol and crime. This corruption in our system is brought to light in the inside of prohibition by mabel walker willebrandt the deputy attorney general for prohibition enforcement during 1929. The quote from this text that proves that corruption was a prevalent issue is in section two where it states “i have not lived in washington all these years without becoming well acquainted with the fact that many congressmen and senators are persistent violators of the volstead act. Senators and congressmen have appeared on the floors in a drunken condition. Bootleggers infest the halls and corridors of congress and ply their trade there.”. This quote portrays how not even the halls of our own government are not safe from the creeping grasp of alcohol taking hold of even those who supported the dry movement. In an already crime ridden country America’s decision makers and the representatives of the people were dabbling in illegal drinks and negotiating and making deals with dangerous criminals to get the alcohol they fought to outlaw with no sign of law enforcement stopping them and once there’s nobody enforcing a law or following it then is it truly needed when its done so much harm? In conclusion America’s choice to remove the 18th amendment and the change of mind was caused by growing crime and murder and corruption within our own system.
It’s me again, your friend, your lover, your special partner in crime and black dude, Zaid Jantuah. Over the long time since I’ve been releasing my pedagogical thoughts across the globe, I couldn’t help but notice how distant I was from the ideal of “SUPER”. While I spent my time blogging on that other site, I couldn’t quite put my finger (zing) on what was wrong. Until I noticed something with how I run my ship, the location in which I was doing it from.
Now, I’ve corrected my error and we now live in the SUPER age. Expect more pedagogical focused posts here, as I navigate through my day to day at FHS alongside my good old friend Zaid 2. So, if you would like to do so once again; Come along, take a listen, and let the show begin anew.
